Wedding Traditions to Ditch (Part 3)

This is the final part of the series. If you missed the first two parts, you can read up on Why it is ok not to invite people just because you were invited to theirs, and Why you don't need to have your bridesmaids match exactly. Like I said before, these are just my opinions. I strongly encourage all of my clients to have the wedding they want!

Having a wedding registry when you really want cash presents.
The reality is a lot of couples nowadays have a lot of stuff already for their homes. They don't want to ask for money at their wedding because it might be considered tacky and inappropriate. Spread the word that you want cash presents and maybe have a reason for it, whether it is for your honeymoon or downpayment on a home. Whether it is an additional set of glassware or an upgraded coffee maker, you likely don't need it. I know for sure the landfill doesn't eventually need it.

Single-out all the single ladies.
Just don't do this at all. Whether it be inviting all the single ladies to catch the bride's bouquet, putting the ladies at the singles table, or introducing the ladies to your lovely second cousin. You invited them to your wedding because you want them there to celebrate your day and have a great time right? Reminding them you are getting hitched while they are still single is not the recipe for a great time.

Having must do items at your wedding.
After getting engaged, you will surely pull up a wedding planning to do list. The list will be extensive and it will likely include everything that you must do. (Having a huge wedding cake, speeches, first dance, etc) Do what you want to do and are comfortable with. Don't stress about finding a flower girl for your wedding ceremony when you didn't want kids at your wedding. Whatever your reason is for what you chose to do, it is ok!
